FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
When should I reserve my date?

We are grateful to all the customers that trust us with their orders, we recognize that you have a choice of specialty cake vendors. But our growing success story does mean that most weekends from April-November, due to weddings and other events, we are fully booked. Since we have a limit of six orders per week, we encourage you to confirm your date as soon as you are certain you would like us to create the cake for your event.

A deposit of 50% is due at time of order placement. We work on a first come first served basis, so if you decide to hold off on a booking, it is most likely that another customer will reserve that date. We cannot block out your date without a deposit, as that would mean we would be turning away other customers who are anxious for us to create their cake and willing to commit to us.

Now that we accept credit cards (Discover, Mastercard, Visa and now AMEX!) we are happy to set up an installment payment plan to help you manage your event planning and budget.

Can you replicate a cake I have seen elsewhere?

We aim to create unique cakes for your event, however should you want us to replicate a cake seen elsewhere, we can do that subject to any copyright and creative commons restrictions. Cake Fiction is happy to have it's designs replicated, providing we are attributed as the original design.

What is your cancellation policy?

A deposit of 50% is due at time of order placement. We ask for the balance to be paid in full two weeks in advance of delivery or pickup date. Cake Fiction will make every attempt to contact the client in the event of a missed pickup date or denied delivery. If a cancellation is made less than two weeks prior, the balance is due in full. No changes can be made to invoices less than two weeks prior to delivery date. Any modifications or changes to delivery/setup must be confirmed no later than two weeks prior to event.

In the event of cancellation:

All requests for cancellation must be made in writing.

If a cancellation is received, the aforementioned deposit will not refundable.

If a cancellation is received less two weeks prior to the promised delivery date, the full aforementioned deposit and balance are due in full.

Can I pay you when you deliver the cake?

All our costs and time are incurred prior to delivery, for that reason we ask for payment in advance and do not accept payment by check, if your event is less than 2 weeks away.  The fact that we now offer credit card payments should make it easier for you to manage your order, and earn some airmiles too?

Regrettably we have been let down several times now by customers that paid us on the day with checks that subsequently bounced. Seriously, they thought we wouldn't notice? Where we come from that is fraud! You will understand that as a small business we cannot afford to give free cake, and we were obliged to prosecute those delinquent payments in small claims court, including interest, costs and damages!

What if I request a refund?

By signing the Cake Order form (which will be provided to the customer when ordering), the customer has agreed to color, design(s) and flavor upon placement of the order. The customer also agrees that upon final payment and pickup or delivery of the order, that they accept the product “as is” and no refunds will be issued.

The following 2 scenarios are the only instances when we will provide a refund:

1-If we fail to deliver your cake on the date and time stated on your contract for your wedding, or event. If we deliver the cake 2 hours late, or less than 2 hours late, we will not provide a refund. Further, if customer provides wrong date, time or address for delivery, we will not provide a refund. **We will not be responsible for any additional expenses that you incur as a result of our failure to deliver the cake. Our liability is limited to the contracted value of the cake.**

2-If you come to our store for “pick up”, or we deliver the cake and the cake does not meet your expectations, we will give you a refund (minus 15% restocking fee). NOTE: If we give you a refund, you cannot keep the cake. You only get the refund if you refuse to “accept” the cake. We will not negotiate a partial refund if you keep the cake. This is a “take it, or leave it” policy.

We do not give refunds under any other circumstances. Refunds are given within 7 days (Refund is given minus 15% restocking fee.)

But what if I don’t like the way my cake tastes?

Most of our customers come referred to us because of the reputation of our cake. Nonetheless, cake flavor and texture is subjective, therefore we encourage customers to arrange a cake tasting in advance, so that you pick the cake that suits your palate.

Refunds requested due to flavor or texture after cake has been accepted and picked up or delivered cannot be offered. You may qualify for a store credit if the product is brought back to us and the quality of the cake flavor or texture is determined not to meet our standards. Quality determination is solely at the discretion of Cake Fiction.

Keep in mind variety in temperature and humidity may impact the flavor, overall design, or texture of the cake to some degree. Please understand we cannot control changes in texture or changes in color or shape due to weather conditions.
